we are all naked
in the face of
this heavy sunshine.
sending down
generations of
emotional warmth
the heat soaks my skin
and echoes throughout
the length of my veins
it absorbs the coo'ing
of a lone dove -
her mourning felt everywhere.
the sunflowers
just opening their sleepy eyes -
slowly trail this morning light
the world is tired
and has never seemed
so exposed.
what else could lighten
the weight of being
then the touch of a spring breeze.
tall grasses swoon
in its path, and they lean
over a field of wild blackberries
a blanket stitched by the sun
with the prickles of
each fruit bearing vine
smothered by
this healing season -
the mingling of soul
within the breathing nature
of this faithful world
delivers me.
